Count the lines, words and characters in a txt file
In one step, you simply select the text file that you would like to evaluate and countTXT counts each line, word and character and shows you how many of each are within the file.
countTXT is designed to read text files that are in the .txt format. Put another way, if a file has a file name that ends in ".txt", countTXT will be able to count the lines, words and characters in that file.
The Standard version of countTXT allows you to count the lines, words and characters in text files of any size.
countTXT will work on computers that use the Windows 2000 or later operating system.

What is a .txt file?
countTXT allows you to count the number of lines, words and characters in .txt files.
An example of a .txt file is a file named "Customers.txt" where you might have a listing of customer names, one on each line. In this case your text file has the extenstion ".txt", which is why it is called a txt file. This kind of file is also called a text file.
Is a .txt file (text file) the same as a Notepad file?
A .txt file (or text file) is simply a file that contains only text (letters, numbers and special characters.) Notepad is a program that comes with Microsoft Windows. Most often, Notepad is used to create .txt files. You can use Notepad to create files that are not .txt files, but this is most often not the case. If you open the Notepad program, type some text and then save the file, unless you choose otherwise, your file will be saved as a .txt file by default.

How many lines, words and characters can countTXT count?
The Standard version of countTXT can count the lines, words and characters in text files that are of any size and have any number of lines, words or characters. As an example, countTXT can count the lines, words and characters in files that have over 1 million lines and tell you the exact number of lines, words and characters in the file.
Starting in version 1.4.59, countTXT includes a progress bar that shows you mow much of the file has been processed and gives you an idea of when countTXT will be done counting the lines, words and characters in a file that is very large.

Does countTXT provide any kind of reporting?
After you count the number of lines, words and characters in a text (txt) file, countTXT displays the number of lines, words and characters on your screen. You may also use the Report function to generate a report that can be pasted from your clipboard into another application. This report show the number of lines, words and characters counted within your .txt file, the full file path, the date and time and other information. You may use this report as evidence within audit workpapers and other documentation.
How long may I use the Standard version of countTXT?
The Standard license of countTXT is perpetual and never expires. You may use the Standard version for as long as you like and may process as many lines and .txt files as you like. The Standard version entitles you to all future application updates.
